Misses Hollond Avairy
The Aviary has been named in memory of 3 sisters who supported our work at the sanctuary for over 30 years.
It took three years to build but after a lot of hard work our two Emus, "Ummy" and "Emma" have a much more interesting environment in which to live. Ummy came to us in 1978 needing a home when Cleethorpe’s Zoo had to close and Emma arrived as a companion for him shortly afterwards. It has also enabled us to provide more space for guinea fowl, pheasants, parrots and many others. All birds alive today can trace their ancestors back to the Dinosaurs and the new aviary has allowed us to continue their story. Remarkably, Tyrannosaurus rex was one of those most closely related but something horrible happened 65 million years ago that still has lessons for us today. Find out more in the new displays.
