VERVET MONKEYS
The new Vervet Monkey enclosure was opened in July 2005. As with most of the enclosures at the sanctuary it was was designed by Paul. It was built for “Charlie” who was born here on Christmas Day 1990 and “Olive” who is on loan from Drusilla’s Zoo. The enclosure was designed to provide as much space for the monkeys as possibleto make them feel at home.
The Conservatory
The front of the new monkey house has a conservatory type viewing area where visitors can see the monkeys in their inside environment. The conservatory is mainly made from perspex this makes the enclosure environmentally friendly by making use of the natural sunlight to heat it in winter and in the summer, climbing plants such as cucumbers are able to provide both shade and food.
