Seal Sanctuary
The Seal Sanctuary Pools were opened in 2000 and were designed as a refuge for those seals that cannot be released back into the wild. They consist of five connected pools of various sizes and they allow us to mimic changes in tides that they would experience in the wild. Look out for Donna, a Grey Seal who came to us in 1983 as a pup and her daughter, Splash, who is very similar in appearance. Josephine, a Common Seal, has been with us since 1976 and that makes her one of the oldest seals in the country but she still has some way to go to beat the record held by a Grey Seal that reached the age of 46 years.
